The Importance of Dreams

Dreams are a big part of the story in, Lost: The Other Realm. The first book in what will be a three part series. Cassie’s adventure all starts with a dream of another world that allows a Faery King to find her. The concept for the book took shape over many years.

It started in my late teens when I was part of a dream group that met regularly to share and interpret our dreams. During that time I learned a lot about symbolism, the layers of dreams, and the importance of the personal "ah ha."

Things I learned about interpreting other people’s dreams:

  • You start any dream interpretation with the phrase, "If it was my dream..."

  • You can only interpret the dream from your own perspective, so it is important to acknowledge that.

  • The job of the person whose dream is being interpreted is to find the "ah ha" moment, the truth that resonates for them.

It was so prevalent in my life, that if was also a kinda game in our family: "If this were a dream." Usually if something odd happened, or if we noticed a pattern, we’d ask each other, "If this were a dream what could it mean?"

Some symbolism you might notice in Lost: The Other Realm (and soon the sequel Searching: The Other Realm)-

  • Water = big emotion/feelings, and healing

  • Fire = passion, creativity, and sometimes destruction

  • Air = intellect and clarity of thought

  • Earth = grounded, fruitful, and creation

I’ve also had a lot of fun weaving in different elements of Tarot and color symbolism. Let me know what elements you noticed!
